Read Matthew 25:14-30 Well done, good and faithful servant!” — Matthew 25:21
Every day, God gives us opportunities to serve Him by serving the people He has placed around us. Sometimes those opportunities look important and meaningful. Other times, they look small—helping someone who is struggling, encouraging a friend, praying for someone, serving in the church, caring for our families, or simply taking time to meet someone’s needs. But in God’s kingdom, no act of faithful service is insignificant.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 25 about a master who entrusted his servants with different amounts of wealth. Two servants took what they had been given and put it to work. When their master returned, he said to both of them, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” They had been faithful with what had been placed in their hands.
The third servant, however, buried what he had been given. He did nothing with it. He claimed to belong to his master, but his actions revealed that he was not living as a faithful servant.
That challenges me to ask: What are we doing with what God has given us?
God has entrusted each of us with different gifts, abilities, opportunities, relationships, resources, and time. We are not all given the same things, but we are all called to be faithful with what we have received. The question is not whether we have as much as someone else. The question is whether we are faithfully using what God has placed in our hands.
Jesus Himself showed us what true servanthood looks like. He said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). If our Master came to serve, then we should desire to become servants as well.
Serving may mean sharing the gospel, helping someone in need, praying for another person, encouraging someone who is discouraged, discipling a younger believer, raising our children to know the Lord, or simply doing our everyday responsibilities wholeheartedly for Christ.
Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
Today, don't overlook the opportunities God has placed in front of you. Ask Him to show you where you can serve. Then take what He has given you and put it to work for His glory.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be a faithful servant. Show me the opportunities around me, give me a heart that desires to serve others, and help me use everything You have entrusted to me for Your glory. Amen.
